Bathroom Units: Which Material Lasts?

Babeco · 2026

Why bathroom cabinets fail

A bathroom unit stands in steam and splashes every day, and water reaches its base when the floor is cleaned. Cabinets made from MDF or chipboard drink that water through their edges, swell, and the doors stop closing within a few years.

The common materials

  • MDF and chipboard: cheap and easy to shape, but swell with water.
  • Solid wood: looks rich, but needs sealing and care in a wet room.
  • Aluminium: does not rot, but the look is cold and dents show.
  • Foam board (بورديوم): a PVC-based board that does not absorb water or rot, light, and holds screws well. This is what most moisture-proof vanities in Egypt use.

How Babeco units are made

  • Body and doors in 17 mm foam board.
  • Height 50 cm, depth 45 cm, widths 60 or 80 cm.
  • Two designs: double door or two drawers, with recessed handle grooves.
  • Four plain colours (white, black, cafe, grey) or our door PVC finishes, so the unit matches your bathroom door.
  • From 5,500 EGP.

What to check before you buy

  • Ask what the body is made of, not just the doors.
  • Check the edges: they are where water gets in.
  • Check the hinges and drawer runners are rust-resistant.
  • Match the colour to your door and floor before you decide.
